Newsletter Friday 31st January
Message from the Head
Happy Friday Queen's Park Families.
We have had so many visitors in school this week and it has been such a pleasure to show people what is happening at Queen's Park. Our children continue to fill us with pride with all visitors commenting on how polite, hard-working and proud our children are to belong to Queen's Park.
On the topic of belonging at Queen's Park, all year groups have completed their Sense of Belonging Artwork and we would love for you to pop in and see it. We will be opening our doors after pick-up on Friday 7th February for you to walk around the school and enjoy the amazing artwork produced by our children. Once you have collected your children, please ask them to bring you into the building and give you a tour of the corridors.
We will be holding a further mobile phone workshop at 8:50am on Friday 7th February for parents/carers. Together we will consider how we work together to keep our children safe online. We have already run one workshop and received fantastic feedback from our families so please pop along for a hot drink and a chat.
Whatever you have planned for the weekend, have a fabulous time together and we look forward to seeing you on Monday.
Mrs. Gale
Modern Foreign Languages
Why languages?
Learning another language encourages pupils to appreciate, respect and celebrate other cultures. Children understand that they can communicate in different ways and can develop skills needed to communicate efficiently. At Queen’s Park, our aim is to foster a love of language learning and provide the foundations needed for pupils to continue this learning into the next stage of their education and beyond. We encourage children to recognise that they are global citizens and make connections with others around the world. Through engaging, interactive lessons, KS2 pupils will have the opportunity to develop and progress their skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing Spanish.
Why Spanish?
Spanish is the official language of 21 countries across the globe and is the second most natively spoken language in the world. At Queen’s Park, we have a number of families whose first language is Spanish and many others who have a connection with the language.
Spanish:
At Queen’s Park, we will be using the Language Angels scheme to support our MFL teaching.
In addition, Duolingo is a free app which children can engage with the Spanish Language. You can download this app on any smart phone or tablet. https://www.duolingo.com/
Spanish Day:
We are very pleased to announce that on Friday 28th February 2025, the whole school will be taking part in Spanish Day. Children will participate in a range of exciting activities, including flamenco dancing and Spanish art, in mixed aged groups and experience a Spanish menu at lunchtime.
Queries:
The school's MFL Leader is Miss Alleyne.
If you have any questions about the school's MFL curriculum, please contact your child's class teacher or Miss Alleyne via the school office admin@queenspark.brighton-hove.sch.uk
Introducing the Newly Revised Queen’s Park Primary School Council!
We are delighted to announce the formation of this year’s School Council at Queen’s Park Primary! Representing the voices of their classmates, our council members have already been hard at work, making sure every child in the school has a say in important decisions.
This dedicated group of pupils has hit the ground running by speaking with their peers and canvassing opinions on a variety of topics that matter most to our school community. To ensure that all areas are covered thoroughly, the Council has split into four focused sub-committees:
- Teaching and Learning: This team is exploring ways to make our lessons even more exciting and engaging. They’re working to ensure that every pupil has the tools and support they need to succeed.
- Community: Focused on strengthening ties within and beyond our school, this group is brimming with ideas to celebrate diversity, organise events including our first ever World Culture Day, and foster a greater sense of belonging.
- Environment: Passionate about sustainability, this committee is looking at how we can take better care of our school grounds and make a positive impact on the wider environment.
- Behaviour and Rewards: This team is reviewing how we can keep our school a happy and positive place. They’re thinking creatively about behaviour policies and reward systems to ensure they’re fair and motivating.
- We are so proud of the enthusiasm and commitment the School Council has already shown. Their work will help shape the future of Queen’s Park Primary, and we’re excited to see the positive changes they bring about.
We encourage all pupils, parents, and staff to support the Council’s efforts and to share ideas with their representatives. Together, we can make our school an even better place to learn and grow!
BHAF Cross-Curricular Challenge cup
Recently, Queen's Park sent a group of children to the AMEX football stadium to take part in a 'Curriculum Challenge' cup, organised and hosted by Brighton and Hove Albion Football Federation.
The children participated in a number of cross-curricular activities, including quizzes and scavenger hunts.
There were 30 teams there and QPS did extremely well to come fourth in the tournament.
It was also a lot of fun and an opportunity to have a snoop in the stadium!
Well done guys!
Indoor Athletics Tournament
Last week, Queen's Park sent a team of year 5 and 6 children to the Brighton School Games Indoor Athletics tournament, hosted at BACA.
It was a fantastic afternoon of racing, jumping and throwing. All the children performed brilliantly and worked together as a team in the relay races.
Some particularly impressive efforts came from Khadija in the speed bounce event and Kyle and Raph in the sprint relay.
The team managed to come 5th overall, a significant improvement on last year!
