Message from the head

Happy Friday everyone!

I am LOVING hearing children practicing their Christmas songs ready for our carol evening! Our wonderful QPSA have been planning a festive treat for our community with the festive fair. Please support them by coming along and enjoying another fantastic opportunity to be together as a community.

As Mrs. Bassett moves on to pastures new, I would like to share a personal thank you for her exceptional leadership. Mrs Bassett has used her passion, vast skill set and ambition for our school and each individual child to drive improvements in many areas. I know you will join me in wishing her the very best for her new role. I will definitely miss her unwavering support, but I know she will remain a friend and champion of Queen's Park Primary.

I wish you all a fantastic weekend and look forward to seeing you all on Monday.

Best wishes,

Emma Gale

At QPS Brighton, we believe that regular school attendance is essential for your child's academic progress and personal development. Did you know that children who miss 10% or more of school each year are much less likely to reach their full potential? Missing school can affect not only academic performance but also a child’s confidence and social skills.

As we move through the school year, this is a timely opportunity to refocus on the importance of attendance. Here are a few tips to help your child succeed:

  • Establish a routine: Set consistent bedtimes and mornings to reduce stress and ensure they're ready for school.
  • Track attendance: Work with your child to set attendance goals and celebrate milestones.
  • Open communication: If your child is facing any challenges - whether health-related or social - please reach out to our school team. We’re here to help!

We also want to recognise our students who have improved their attendance this term. Keep up the great work, and let's make this a year of consistent learning and growth!

As always, if you have any concerns or need support, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Together, we can make every day count!

Golden ticket winners!

Queen's Park Primary School is excited to announce the first-ever Golden Ticket winners! These lucky students were recognised for their outstanding achievements and were rewarded with some fantastic prizes.

· First Prize: Daria – Daria chose 4 reading books, including the classic The Little Princess, as her prize. A great choice for a young reader!

· Second Prize: Dylan – Dylan used his voucher to pick out a comprehensive Art Set, perfect for unleashing his creativity and artistic talents.

· Third Prize: Sulayman – Sulayman picked a new football to enjoy some fun and active playtime with his friends.

The Golden Ticket rewards are given to students who show excellence in various areas, including fantastic attendance, excellent classwork, and outstanding acts of kindness. We are so proud of these winners and look forward to seeing even more students earning Golden Tickets in the future!

Congratulations to Daria, Dylan, and Sulayman—keep up the amazing work!

y6 practical science

Last week Year 6 Mr Davies, a teacher from Brighton College, came in and gave Year 6 some exciting opportunities to experience a new kind of practical science.

Year 6 are learning about light this half term so Mr Davies brought in some sheep's eyeballs for them to look at and dissect!

The children were able to see the different parts of the eye and some children even put some gloves on and touched the different parts. Everyone was really excited to talk about everything they had seen and learnt about during his lesson.

Energy Works: energy saving tips

Energy Works recently visited our school to share tips for saving energy—especially important during the colder months. One key point was the Warm Home Discount: check with your energy supplier to see if you're eligible for support with winter bills.

Smart meters can help you save money by providing accurate readings, avoiding overcharging or undercharging. If a smart meter isn’t possible, submit regular readings manually. Simple steps like using thick curtains, bleeding radiators, and placing reflective mats behind them can help retain heat. Heating only the rooms you use, using radiator controls, and sealing drafts with excluders also help to be more efficient and ultimately reducing costs.

Other tips include switching to energy-saving bulbs, using temporary glazing, and installing water-efficient showerheads to save hot water. Small actions now can help keep your home warm and your energy bills manageable this winter.
