Newsletter Friday 11th October 2024
Message from the Head
We are trialing a new way of sharing our newsletter information with you all. We want our communication to be as accessible as possible to our whole school community. We are open to your feedback on it!
I hope that you all saw my important message about the proposed secondary school catchment areas. Please ensure you complete the survey to ensure the council consider the voices across Brighton and Hove. Please let me know if you would like to discuss this with me or would like support to respond to the survey.
It has been a wonderful couple of weeks in school. Everyone is in the swing of things in their new year groups. Staff have been working together to continue to develop our curriculum.
I am really excited about our artwork on 'A Sense of Belonging at Queen's Park'. Our children will all be considering what it feels like to belong and contributing to either individual or group pieces of art work which will be displayed across the school. I have seen some fantastic ideas from the children so we are looking forward to seeing their creations develop over the term.
School Office Closure Notice
Starting Monday 14th October, the school office will be closed daily from 1:15 PM to 2:45 PM.
This will allow our office staff uninterrupted time to focus on important tasks. This is to support our increased focus on attendance and other key areas. We kindly ask that you refrain from calling during these times unless it is an emergency, to help ensure staff can meet their deadlines efficiently.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
Attendance Matters
This year we are really focusing on improving our attendance.
There are clear links to attendance and attainment. Attending school regularly helps to build confidence and develop vital life skills. School is the key to future success!
Did you know:
Missing 2 days of school each month is equivalent to missing 3 weeks during the school year.
15 minutes late every day is equivalent to 2 week of missing learning.
Even 90% attendance is still 19 days of education lost in a school year.
Please get in touch with us if you would like some support regarding attendance. We can work together to explore causes and implement strategies.

Year 1
In our year 1 maths lessons, we have been introduced to a whole and parts.
We are now learning how to split a whole amount into 2 parts.
In our outdoor learning we have been making rockets, telescopes and binoculars, as we have been learning about Neil Armstrong and Mae Jemison
As we have been learning about autumn and the different signs we can see around us, we have painted leaves, fir cones and pumpkins to print with.
We have a new mud kitchen and have been busy creating lots of delicious food!
Brighton & Hove Albion Foundation STEM Day
In year 5, we were lucky enough to welcome the Brighton and Hove Albion Foundation to our school for a whole day of STEM study. Throughout our sessions, we used football to learn about science, technology, engineering and maths. The highlight was using small robots, which we had to code, on a mat designed like a football pitch. As we coded them, we had to think about movement, angles and problem-solving whilst displaying lots of teamwork and communication skills! The children had a lot of fun with this enrichment opportunity.
Football fixtures
Last week, both the girls and boys football teams played league matches against Stanford Juniors at the Manor Rd 4G pitch. Despite both teams losing, the children enjoyed the new experience of playing competitive matches for the school and played with an excellent spirit. Both the boys and girls teams will continue to attend training sessions on Thursdays and Fridays after school led by Mr Taylor, Mr McGowan and coach Louis from Brighton & Hove Albion Foundation. The children in both squads are keen to improve their skills and tactics in preparation for the next matches against St John's on Thursday 24th October.
